I found it hard to comprehend how even in the year 2021 we still accept the western beauty standard as completely self-evident, and this spurred me to deconstruct the stereotypes surrounding beauty.
My research began with one question: what is beauty really, in the eyes of others? This led me to the discovery that beauty isn’t about physical characteristics, but rather our personality traits – it’s all about the inside.
My concept comprises a capsule collection for Daily Paper consisting of 3 unisex dresses inspired by traditional Suriname costume. The campaign is geared towards men and women aged between 20 and 38, a generation that’s set to leave its mark on the future. Each dress expresses a different definition of beauty, with an alienating, monochrome media campaign to bring this collection to public attention.
