My graduation subject came about when I thought about an issue I was faced with from time to time. In an attempt to make something tangible to fix it, I’ve designed a cross-body bag containing a shopping bag, so you’re never stuck without one. Let’s put an end to disposable plastic bags!
This design was made in response to the harmful effects of disposable plastic on the world. I’ve looked into the unisex fashion trend, where differences between men and women are increasingly de-emphasised. The battle against overconsumption has also been influential. Finally, I’ve reviewed the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. Research has shown that people want more colour in their lives when recovering from a crisis.
My sama.sama bag, which I’ve developed in collaboration with Dutch unisex fashion brand The New Originals, is about happiness, freedom, togetherness, music, and the celebrations we all want to return to so badly. Sama sama is an Indonesian expression meaning you’re welcome. I’m using it to say: “You’re welcome, here’s a bag with a hidden shopping bag, so you’ll never have to remember buying a plastic bag again.”
