My research shows that people still keep quiet about racism and discrimination. People are afraid to stand up for themselves when faced with discrimination in various aspects in difficult situations, and keep their experiences for themselves.
This project, which I’ve developed for Patta, is my way of normalising discussion of discrimination. To this end, I’ve started a campaign photographing various models in wedding dresses. These dresses represent the strict standards imposed by society – a society you feel trapped in when it rejects you for being different. The campaign is meant to symbolise tearing down these oppressive standards.
The target group is made up generations Y and Z. They’re not set in their ways yet, and frequently encounter this topic on social media. It’s time for them to get more involved in the topic, which is what I’ve set out to accomplish with this campaign.
