My inspiration is Black Activism. This theme, which has emerged in response to ethnic profiling and police violence against black people, is close to my heart.
For years, black people have fought for acceptance, acknowledgement and equal rights. Researching black heritage, I came across an enslaved woman named Virginia Dementricia: a strong, rebellious woman who fought the system until her death. She is a shining example to contemporary female activists.
1863 is a womenswear collection created in close collaboration with Daily Paper and Marcus Elizabeth. It consists of empowering articles of clothing founded on activist principles for the Dutch woke generation. The goal of the collection is to get an apology for historical slavery. This will engender peace, acknowledgement and a way to start healing deep wounds of the past.
