The average consumer has an annual ecological footprint the size of a football field. By 2050, the world population will have doubled. Two globes would be required to maintain our current society. Fossil and natural fuels are being depleted. Given our current level of waste production, drastic changes have to be made if we are to survive climate change. This disposable crockery is made out of seaweed. Seaweed grows at a quick rate and does not damage the environment, because it is 100% natural, and can be composted at the end of its life cycle.
The desire for sustainable and efficient products is growing. Sjö Porslin is IKEA’s answer to this. The crockery is fit for use in the hotel and catering industry, as well as home use, and will be available at IKEA stores starting 2015.
